Buying Furniture On Line -- Beginning
Objective: Write the names of furniture. Find items, prices and vendors on line.
Make buying decisions.
Previously taught: Furniture names
Read through the computer instructions with students. Demonstrate with the projector. One problem some of my students had was hitting the "back" button too many times and ending up at the main Yahoo page instead of the Shopping page. While you are demonstrating, point out the "Shopping" logo at the top of the page and demonstrate how to get back to it from the main Yahoo! page.
Give one handout to each pair (or group) of students who will be working together and demonstrate how to fill it out. This handout has space for ten pieces of furniture, but that's too much for Beginning Low students. I recommend asking Beginning Low students to find five items.
Assign a room to each pair/group and set a price limit for each room. (The price limit depends on how many pieces of furniture they are buying.) Setting lower price limits causes more discussion.
Each group should choose only one picture to print--their favorite of the furniture they "bought." They can cut out the picture and glue it to the bottom of the handout.
When they are finished, have groups compare their results.
