Here is a sentence scramble exercise that contains model sentences.

Here is a handout that can serve as a model paragraph. It goes with the Word by Word Basic Picture Dictionary.

Have students describe the people in the picture to a partner. "My mother is wearing a white dress." (No pointing!)

Have students write about their pictures. Correct their writing.

Before "computer day," make a Word document for each student. Insert the student's picture at the top of the file. Insert picture instructions. If you center the picture, students will need to click the "left justify" button before they start typing. It may be easier to teach them to center the picture after the fact. Centering a picture instructions.

If you have made Word files named for the students ahead of time, the computer instructions for the students are very easy:

1. Double-click on "thawspace"

2. Double-click on your name.

3. Click under the picture and type your story.
